Laboratory grown diamonds are chemically identical to natural diamonds but have not been formed in the earth over millions of years, they have been grown in a laboratory over a number of weeks and therefore are not in our opinion the same as earth mined diamonds, the Auctioneer assesses every diamond with gemmological equipment to ensure that it is a natural earth mined diamond, we do not sell Laboratory grown diamonds Synthetic coloured stones: The Auctioneer may on occasion offer a synthetic coloured stone for sale, particularly if it is set in a vintage item where synthetic gemstones were commonly used in the first half of the 20th Century due to the scarcity of natural stones, where this is the case this will be stated in the catalogue description Treatment to coloured stones to improve colour and clarity is common, without a gemmological laboratory assessment we cannot guarantee the presence or absence of treatment or the degree to which a stone is treated, with the use of standard gemmological equipment we will endeavour to supply this information if possible* Gemmological descriptions are based on testing carried out by standard gemmological equipment without unsetting the stones
