Bouvier, a self taught artist, began as a landscape painter. He exhibited in Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam, Chicago, and elsewhere. He is considered one of the finest marine painters of his time, notably for his ability to capture the movement of waves and the depth of the atmosphere. His works are held in the Royal Museums of
