Gould - Hummingbird VII palm Finished with Dacron wrapIllustrations from the ornithologist John Gould's A Monograph of the Trochilidae, or Family of Hummingbirds, published in London in 1849 61. Gould was an obsessive collector of specimens and designer and publisher of more than 3300 plates. His wife Elizabeth Gould and later other notable artists such as Edward Lear executed the finished drawings to his design which showed remarkable detail and movement.
